MORE hexagons!

It's probably bad form for me to be posting these since I made them for a PMQG swap later this month. Oh well. I love them and hope that whoever nabs them in the blind swap loves them too.

Also made a tiny little drawstring pouch for them because one can never have too many tiny red and aqua hexie adorned drawstring pouches, can they?

Snack Sack

Okay, there's been a lot more crafting than quilting going on around here lately. But that's fine with me since I ended up with these awesome new snack sacks for the kids! Now I don't have to throw their juice boxes, granola bars, raisins, whatever into my purse.

Cute, right? The main fabric is a taupe cotton sheet from IKEA ($4.50 for a twin, which is a huge amount of fabric). The detail pieces are fussy cut and raw edge appliqued onto linen/cotton, which is also raw edge appliqued onto the main fabric.

The back has a pocket made from the same fabric as the bag lining (vintage sheet - thanks Jill!). Handles are another vintage sheet fabric.

Couldn't help myself and made another tiny twill tape tag.

After making one bag I immediately NEEDED to make another one. Two kids. Two snack sacks. Heaven help me if they had to, you know, SHARE.

True confessions: I made this second one at an obscenely late hour. So late, it was actually very, very early. When I put the handles on I messed up the front one and it has a little twist in it. I could take it apart and fix it. But I'm not going to.

So there you have it. Snack sacks for everyone!

Time flies

This is what I was doing six years ago today. Happy happy day!

Pillowcase Dress

I was a little late to the party, but now that I've started collecting vintage/thrifted sheets and linens I'm smitten. My friend Jill recently gave me this great strawberry and flower vine pillowcase. Since it came with it's adorable little ruffle intact, I kept hesitating about cutting into it. Instead, I made this sweet little summer dress for Miss Bailey.

She loves it!

Perfect for running through the yard or watching bugs in the grass.

I added a second ruffle from a sheet that I had already riped into fat quarters. Loving the double ruffle!

Very easy. Very quick. And since my little tomboy loved it enough to wear all day AND do some twirling, I'm calling it a success.

Hexagon madness!

Here are the hexies I made for the Handsome Hexies swap over on flickr. It's all Amy Butler from the Midwest Modern collection. I loved making these and am always a little bit surprised at how much more I like certain fabrics when I only see a tiny amount at once. It's almost like looking at the fabric through a microscope.

And here they are all stacked and ready to go in their little drawstring pouch.

And on a completely unrelated note: I had some help in the kitchen making a blackberry/blueberry crisp.

Excited, are we? We picked the blackberries around our house and the blueberries on Sauvie Island.

I made the aprons from bandanas and some black twill tape. Bailey chose pink ric rack trim for hers (sweet) and Owen chose a pretty awesome black and purple zebra trim for his. You can just barely see it around the waist.

Now I'm off to start on more hexagons for the PMQG hexie swap!

Linen Love

A little something I worked up last night. I was sort of obsessed with doing something with some of my new hexies so I put them on this cute little linen pouch.

And here's the back.
I made this tiny twill tape tag (say that three times fast!) with my first initial. It serves no purpose other than I thought it was a cute detail.

And here's a peek at the lining, along with a completely useless teeny tiny pocket. I thought it would be big enough to hold my driver's license but I clearly measured wrong, or sewed wrong, or something because it's about an eighth of an inch too small. Oops.

And there you have it. I wish I was better at putting in zippers. Maybe I need to make about a gazillion more little pouches for practice.

Hooked on hexies

Our "theme" at last night's PMQG meeting was HEXAGONS! There was lots of fun show and tell and a lovely presentation about some of the different ways to make hexies and then we broke up into smaller groups to work on making our own little six-sided pieces of fabric yumminess.

I kind of have a little crush on this guy with the flowers. So cute.

One of my favorite things was seeing what Christina could do with just one hexie and a minimal but magical bit of embroidery. She turned a single hexagon into different animals or a tree or some such cuteness. I think I have to steal, I mean borrow this idea and make a couple of softie books for my kiddos to play with.
