Emergency Crafting

We've had a bit of drama over here that made it necessary to make these:

Tooth Fairy Pillows!

You see, Owen and Bailey were playing with Daddy (a made-up game called Toro Toro where Daddy is the bullfighter and Owen and Bailey are the bulls, running through a small blanket Daddy holds up). Both kiddos ran full force at each other and before anyone could stop them Bailey's head made hard and painful contact with Owen's mouth. Lots of tears. Lots of red stuff. And two loose teeth.

We went to the doctor who set us up with an emergency visit to the dentist the next day. With a possible tooth extraction on the horizon I figured I'd better whip up a tooth fairy pillow (or two), just in case.

The front has a pocket for holding the tooth until the Tooth Fairy can come and leave a little surprise in it's place. And there's a loop for hanging the pillow off the bedpost or the doorknob.

I'm happy to say that we have NOT had to use it yet! The dentist wants to wait a few more days to let my poor little guy heal up a bit. But it's likely that the tooth will come out early next week.

These little pillows are very simple to make and would be easy to customize with a name or some embroidery. Any interest in a tutorial?

Snack mat fail

Oh dear.

This had such promise.

I don't know if it's the linen at the edges or the way I serged them prior to binding that made it turn out so wavy along the top and sides.

Sigh.

And to top it all off, the backing fabric is upside down.

I guess this one will live at my house instead of going out into swappy-land.

The good news is I get to keep making snack mats!

Raw talent

My precious daughter discovered that she can do this with some large game pieces we have.

And of course, my not-to-be-outdone son had to get in on the act.

I would never have thought to try to do this. Just one more reason why kids are awesome.

Back to crafty posts soon. We were without access to my beloved internet for what seemed like an eternity. On the plus side, without the distractions of facebook, flickr, and all the online fabric stores I can't buy anything from (because of the whole fabric fast insanity - what was I thinking????) I found I had LOTS of time to, um, sew. Funny how that works.

Stuff Happens

My glasses are history. Super tired from a long night with the kiddos. We had all returned home after a long morning of preschool and errands. Went to shut the back of the car and whacked the door down on my own head, sent the glasses flying (and breaking) and gave myself a nice lump on my temple.

Bummer.
